Trying New Things
Trying New Things Many people have been surprised to learn that up until about three weeks ago, I had never had a Dorito (or as I call it, a flavored tortilla chip). Itâs pretty shocking, but up until the past month, I had also never tried sushi or ground beef. Yup. I never had Doritos or hamburgers until my senior year of college. I cant believe Ive been missing out on this juicy goodness. Iâve always been a picky eater, and I grew up vegetarian. Meat has never, and will never, been the main part of my diet, but its nice to enjoy once in a while. I remember all the first times I had different meats â" a chicken tender after school in 3rd grade, a hot dog at a school picnic in 6th grade, and Thanksgiving turkey in 8th grade. Doritos were just one of the things I never got around to trying. Luckily for me, college is (and always has been) about trying new things. When you arrive freshman year, there are thousands of people you donât know and hundreds of things youâve never done. Youâre given the opportunity to play sports youâve never seen or join clubs youâve never heard of. Wanna play Quidditch? We have it. Interested in advancing hyperloop technology? Thatâs a student organization you can join. Want to train service dogs for people in need? You can do that too. In college, you have the opportunity to branch out like never before. For introverts like me, taking risks can be terrifying. It took all my courage to go to RSO (student organization) meetings, or to strike up a conversation with someone in my class. Even though Iâm in my fourth year, I still can struggle doing those things. However, through four years of trial and error Ive learned that the worst that can happen in most situations is hardly a bad thing at all. Didnât like the RSO you wanted to join? You learned something new about yourself, and thereâs 1,800 other ones on our campus. A conversation with a classmate didnât go as planned? Maybe they were having a rough day! You can always try again tomorrow. Or try a new classmate. Odds are, itâs more than just the two of you in the class. Didnât get the job you were interviewing for? It happens to everyone. Going through college without experiencing failure means you didnât try something new. It can be scary petrifying to do the unexpected and try something new, but in my experience, 9 times out of 10 it turns out for the best. Although Iâm not quite sure whether my new addiction to Doritos is a good or bad thing. Thatâs up to you to decide. My first ever Dorito! Alex Class of 2020 After switching majors four times, I've finally fallen in love with what I'm studying: communication in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. I hope hearing about my experiences can put all your worries at ease, because college really isn't as scary as you might think!

Assyrian Art Essay Example For Students
Assyrian Art Essay The reliefs from the palace of King Assurnasirpal II at Nimrud play an important role in portraying the power and importance of the Assyrian king. These reliefs are similar to other Assyrian reliefs in terms of their purpose; however, there is a contrast in the methods used to glorify the king. By examining such factors as style, iconography and historical significance, we find many similarities and differences between the ceremonial reliefs and the more common reliefs depicting war and hunting. The reliefs belonging to the sacred orceremonial category consist of panels depicting a sacred tree, a human headed genius fertilizing a sacred tree, a griffin fertilizing a sacred tree, and a scene of King Assurnasirpal whose name comes from the god Assur followed by a winged genius. Dating to about 870 B. C. , these reliefs were originally located in the antechamber to the royal throne hall and in the living room where it would have been viewed by distinguished guests. Because of their location and larger than life size, the reliefs nstill in the beholder a sense of awe and reverence for the king. Art History Anthology 28. Moreover, the reliefs overwhelm the viewer by depicting the kings power and god-like divinity through propagandistic iconography and stylization. To portray the kings god-like divinity, the reliefs represent the deities and Assurnasirpal in a similar manner. First of all, hierarchic scale is almost absent since all the figures are closely related in size, with Assurnasirpal being only slightly shorter than the deities. In historical context, this shows that Assyrian kings were closely associated with deities, but were not considered gods themselves. This lack of hierarchic scale is also seen in the Lion Hunt of Assurbanipal, where king Assurbanipal is shown slightly larger than his servants. Secondly, the deities and Assurnasirpal are similar in stance and stylization. All the figures have their head and legs shown in profile, while the torso is shown halfway frontal. In addition, the figures maintain a stiff vertical stance with their arms extended in either straight lines or are stiffly bent into a ninety-degree angle. In the third panel, both a winged deity and Assurnasirpal are depicted facing towards the right with their left feet forward; however, in contrast, the human headed genius and the griffin genius are facing towards the left with their right feet forward. Because of their stiff stance, these figures highly contrast the movement and action shown in the hunting scenes of Assurbanipal and war scenes of Assurnasirpal. In term of stylization, both the human headed deities and Assurnasirpal have very stylized hair falling in straight locks to the back of their necks; furthermore, they possess highly stylized beards of intricate waves and ringlets which end evenly at the bottom. Because these features are similar to that of Assurbanipal and the mythological bullmen at the palace at Khorsabad, it can be construed that it is a coiffure characteristic of royalty and divinity alike Art History Anthology 28. Moving on to the facial expression, we find that all the human headed figures contain large eyebrows, large eyes that are deeply undercut, an elongated nose, conventionalized ears, and highly conventionalized lips which appear as a simple slit. On the other hand, the beardless griffin has an eagles head adorned with a feather headdress and a curved beak with a long tongue. To show the strength of the deities and Assurnasirpal, the artist depicts muscles within the arms and legs through simple lines and curves. This style of depicting the facial and body features is common in other Assyrian reliefs including the hunting scenes of Assurbanipal. Although there are many similarities in body structure, there is also a distinctive element that separates the deities and the king. Each deity possesses a set of four highly stylized wings made up of very detailed feathers. Besides the use of stance and stylization, clothing is used as a means of displaying the kings importance in relation to the gods. .ufd3689c45128fadc26c12e8ead8c22f7 , .ufd3689c45128fadc26c12e8ead8c22f7 .postImageUrl , .ufd3689c45128fadc26c12e8ead8c22f7 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ufd3689c45128fadc26c12e8ead8c22f7 , .ufd3689c45128fadc26c12e8ead8c22f7:hover , .ufd3689c45128fadc26c12e8ead8c22f7:visited , .ufd3689c45128fadc26c12e8ead8c22f7:active { border:0!important; } .ufd3689c45128fadc26c12e8ead8c22f7 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ufd3689c45128fadc26c12e8ead8c22f7 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ufd3689c45128fadc26c12e8ead8c22f7:active , .ufd3689c45128fadc26c12e8ead8c22f7:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ufd3689c45128fadc26c12e8ead8c22f7 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ufd3689c45128fadc26c12e8ead8c22f7 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ufd3689c45128fadc26c12e8ead8c22f7 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ufd3689c45128fadc26c12e8ead8c22f7 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ufd3689c45128fadc26c12e8ead8c22f7:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ufd3689c45128fadc26c12e8ead8c22f7 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ufd3689c45128fadc26c12e8ead8c22f7 .ufd3689c45128fadc26c12e8ead8c22f7-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ufd3689c45128fadc26c12e8ead8c22f7:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: The Art of Poetry EssayAgain a similarity between the deities and Assurnasirpal is shown through their attire. Each one is dressed in a similar fashion in both heavy short-sleeved tunics that come down to the knees, and ankle-length shawls that contain geometric designs and tassels along the hem. The figures also possess accessories such as bracelets, necklaces, earrings and a pair of daggers. Also important is the royal cap, which identifies Assurnasirpal as a king, as well as the bow he holds, which is a symbol of might and military prowess Art History Anthology 28. The pair of daggers and the symbolism of the bow are important to the Assyrian culture because they portray their war-like nature. This war-like nature is a common factor that relates theseceremonial reliefs to the reliefs described by Henri Frankfort in The Art and Architecture of the Ancient Orient. Another detail typical of the reliefs from the palace of King Assurnasirpal II, are the sandals that the deities and the king wear. In contrast to the war and hunting scenes where the figures wear boots, the sandals worn express the peacefulness in the ceremonial reliefs. As we can see, clothing and accessories play an important role in depicting the kings comparison to the gods as well as the similarities and differences with other Assyrian reliefs. Finally, the action taking place within the ceremonial reliefs exhibit the power and importance of the king. First off, the panels depicting the deities fertilizing the sacred tree are important. The sacred tree is shown artistically in a symmetrical manner with intertwining branches, stylized leaves, and a fan of leaves above the trunk. The winged geniuses are fertilizing the sacred tree with a date blossom in their right hand and holding a sacred bucket in their left. In addition, panel three shows a winged deity following Assurnasirpal with his right hand raised over the king in a gesture of benediction and divine protection Art History Anthology 28. By placing these reliefs in his antechamber and living room, Assurnasirpal emphasizes the sacred character of the Assyrian king, elected by the gods, although not himself of divine substance Frankfort 87. In conclusion, we find that the reliefs from the palace of King Assurnasirpal II play an important role in exhibiting the power and importance of the king. While an Assyrian kings power can be depicted is a war-like manner by his military might, we learn thatceremonial reliefs are also effective by placing the king in relation to gods. The power and importance of the king is shown through a peaceful manner that highly contrasts the scenes of death and fighting found in such reliefs as the lion hunt of Assurbanipal and the battle scene of Assurnasirpal.

Describe the most significant lesson that you have learned. This one is quite tricky as it could be referring to lessons that have bestowed wisdom, both inside and outside the classroom. It is hard to know if one is more impressive that the other, but if you manage to pull off describing the context and applying problems that have been solved by your interesting lesson, then you will get this essay down pat.

Emotions essays
Emotions essays Emotions have helped humans evolve and survive by changing the way we react to and think about our environment. Positive and negative emotions create patterned responses in both individuals and in whole societies. Emotions can help people understand the world, including other human beings, better; they can also distort perceptions. Fear probably influences human evolution more than any other emotion. For example, early humans quickly learned that some large mammals posed direct threats to themselves and their families. By creating a "fight or flight" response, fear helped prehistoric peoples survive and thrive in the midst of natural threats and disasters. Fear also contributed in large part to the development of religion, as the contemplation of the universe induced a sense of awe and wonder at the universe. Unfortunately, the emotion of fear also created divisions between different tribes and ethnic groups. This expression of fear greatly influenced the way in which different peoples evolved and different cultures either flourished or died out. Most wars have been fought based on emotional responses, especially fear and anger. Anger, a natural response to situations that are unexpected, irritating, or potentially harmful, also helps human survive and evolve. Anger affects all interpersonal relationships and can cause rifts and strife among communities and cultures. However, love and attraction has had a similar effect on human evolution. Interracial marriages affect the evolution of humanity on biological and cultural levels. Mutual respect and admiration for foreign cultures and people has contributed to human evolution in the same way that fear and anger has. Love most obviously contributes to human survival by ensuring the continuation of the species, as males and females feel emotional and sexual attractions for one another. A wide range of human emotions, ma...

Shroud of Torin Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Shroud of Torin - Research Paper Example Shroud of Turin The Shroud of Turin is a linen cloth that bears the image of a tortured and crucified person and that is believed by many people to be the actual cloth that wrapped Jesus Christ during his burial. The authenticity of the Shroud of Turin has been a subject of a very controversial debate; the proponents of the Shroud of Turin argue that the Shroud of Turin is indeed the real cloth that Jesus Christ of Nazareth was wrapped in during his burial, while the critiques of the Shroud of Turin on the other hand dismiss the Shroud of Turin as a medieval Christian hoax meant to win Christianity more converts (Stapylton, 2003). This paper looks at the history of the Shroud of Turin, and also at the controversies that characterize the history of the Shroud. And since the History of the Shroud of Turin is too broad to be covered in this paper, the paper focuses on the highlights of the history of the Shroud of Turin. At the end of the paper, an objective conclusion is made based on the history and the debates on the authenticity of the Shroud of Turin. For better analysis of the history of the Shroud of Turin, the history of the Shroud of Turin can be divided into two periods. The first period is before the year 1350, and the second period is after the year 1350. Researchers are agreed that the year 1350 is the beginning of the documented history of the Shroud of Turin (Shroud History, n.d.). But the period before 1350 is quite controversial; some scholars are of the view that the Shroud of Turin existed even before 1350 while other scholars, basing their evidence on Carbon dating, believe that the origin of the Shroud of Turin can be traced in the medieval period. But before we get into the debate of the authenticity of the Shroud of Turin, let us first look at the documented history of the Shroud of Turin. The following are the significant events in the history of the Shroud of Turin as documented by the Shroud Historian Ian Wilson (1978). According to the d ocumented history of the Shroud, Geoffrey de Charny, a French knight, is mentioned as the person who was first found with the Shroud of Turin (Wilson, 1978). In the year 1349, Geoffrey had written to pope Clement V1 expressing his wish to build a church in honour of the Holy Trinity. Geoffrey had been a prisoner of the English and he claimed that the Holy Trinity had miraculously saved him from the English prison. The pope gave him the permission to build the church and Geoffrey built it at Lirey in France. Geoffrey is said to have been in possession of the Shroud of Turin during this time and he kept the Shroud in the Church that he built at Lirey. Some people have argued that Geoffrey had got the Shroud from Constantinople; while other people disagree with this view (Shroud History, n.d). The first public exposition of the Shroud of Turin was done in 1355 at the church that Geoffrey had built at Lirey in France. Bishop Henri, however, was quite sceptical of the Shroud and he order ed that the expositions be halted. The expositions were halted and the Shroud was hidden away. In the year 1356, Geoffrey and his wife died, but the Shroud remained in the family of Geoffrey. In the year 1389, King Charles V1 of France requested the bailiff of Troyes to seize the Shroud at lirey and deposit in another church in Lirey waiting further decisions on the Shroud from the king (Shroud History,

A Report Comparing Employee Salaries at Mama Mia and Pasta Roma Essay
A Report Comparing Employee Salaries at Mama Mia and Pasta Roma Restaurants - Essay Example While the two restaurants are largely similar in terms of products and services offered and thus requires similar efforts from their employees, observations seems to indicate that employees in the two restaurants do not enjoy comparable salaries. This report aims to investigate this issue and provide statistical evidence that would prove or disprove the comparability of salary packages awarded to the employees of the two restaurants. Procedure Information was gathered on the salaries that employees from the two restaurants receive. Upon collecting these data, they were subjected to statistical analysis using the appropriate computer software. Pertinent statistical data of interest regarding employee salaries were: Shape of the distribution, Mean, Median, Minimum value, Maximum value, Range, Lower quartile value (Q1), Upper quartile value (Q3), Semi-interquartile range (SIR), Standard deviation, and Total Salaries. In addition, the number of employees were also noted. The results are presented in Table 1 below. Findings Table 1. Summary of Descriptive Statistics on the Salaries of Mama Mia and Pasta Roma Employees. à MAMA MIA ROMA PASTA Shape of distribution Positively skewed Negatively skewed Mean salary PW ?550 ?553 Median salary PW ?470 ?540 Min ?199 ?450 Max ?901 ?800 Range ?702 ?350 Q1( lower quartile) ?300 ?510 Q3(upper quartile) ?670 ?590 SIR ?185 ?40 Standard deviation ?117 ?66 Number of employees 248 196 Total Salaries ?116560 ?105840 Discussion and Analysis of Results The mean salary of employees from Mama Mia was ?à 550 per week while Roma Pasta employees earn an average of ?553 per week. However, since the distributions are skewed, the median is the best measure to use in describing the average salaries of the employees. Looking at the data, we see that fifty percent of Mama Mia employees earned less than ?470 per week while 50% of Roma Pasta employees earned less than ?540 per week. These values indicate that more Roma Pasta employees are getti ng higher salaries than Mama Mia employees. In addition, the salary range of Mama Mia employee salaries is ?702 with a minimum salary of ?199 and ?901 while the salary range of Pasta Roma employee salaries is ?350 with a minimum salary of ?450 and a maximum salary of ?800. A further look into the results indicate that Q1 or the lower quartile employees for Mama Miaââ¬â¢s earn ?300 while lower quartile employees for Pasta Roma earn ?510. This means that 25% of Mama Miaââ¬â¢s employees have salaries of less than ?300 while 25% of Pasta Roma employees have salaries of less than ?510. Considering that the minimum salary received by Pasta Roma employees is ?450, this result suggests that even low-level Pasta Roma employees are being paid better than the low-level Mama Miaââ¬â¢s employees. Furthermore, Q3 or employees belonging to the upper quartile for Mama Miaââ¬â¢s earn ?670 while employees belonging to the upper quartile for Pasta Roma earn ?590. This time, we notice that the upper level employees of Mama Miaââ¬â¢s are actually paid better than the upper level employees of Pasta Roma. Thus, the middle 50% of Mama Miaââ¬â¢s employees earn ? 300 - ? 670 while the middle 50% of Pasta Roma employees earn ?510 - ?590. Factoring in the semi-interquartile range (SIR) of both groups, we see that Mama Miaââ¬â¢s has a high dispersion of the middle 50% of salaries about the median, given at ?185, while Pasta Roma has a low dispersion of the middle 50% of salaries about the median, given at ?40. In addition, the standard deviation of ?117 indicates a large amount of dispersion about the mean for Mama Miaââ¬â¢s while the standard deviation of ?66 indicates a relatively smaller amount of dispers

The International Product Life Cycle Model Theory Economics Essay
The International Product Life Cycle Model Theory Economics Essay The intent of Vernon, International Product Life Cycle model (IPLC) was to advance trade theory beyond David Ricardos static framework of comparative advantages. In 1817, Ricardo came up with a simple economic experiment to explain the benefits to any country that was engaged in international trade even if it could produce all products at the lowest cost and would seem to have no need to trade with foreign partners. He showed that it was advantageous for a country with an absolute advantage in all product categories to trade and allows its work force to specialise in those categories with the highest added value. Vernon focused on the dynamics of comparative advantage and drew inspiration from the product life cycle to explain how trade patterns change over time. New products are manufactured, produced and consumed in the developed (inventing) countries. Then, other high-income countries import it. Production spreads to other advanced countries. The standardised product begins to be produced out of advanced countries into low-wage nation. Advanced countries import it from the low wage countries and Next generation product invented in the advanced countries. Globalisation- Business Environment The tremendous growth of international trade over the past several decades has been both a primary cause and effect of globalization. The volume of world trade since 1950 has increased twenty-fold from $320 billion to $6.8 trillion.1 This increase in the trade of manufactured goods exceeds the increase in the rate of the production of these goods by three times. As a result, consumers around the world now enjoy a broader selection of products than ever before. Additionally, a whole host of U.S. government agencies and international institutions has been established to help manage the ever-growing flow of goods, services, and capital. Although increased international trade has spurred tremendous economic growth across the globe raising incomes, creating jobs, reducing prices, and increasing workers earning power trade can also bring about certain kinds of economic, political, and social disruption. Because the global economy is so interconnected, when large economies suffer recessions, the effects are felt around the world. Trade decreases, and domestic jobs and businesses are lost. In the same way that globalization can be a boon for international trade; it can also have a crushing impact(www.globalization101.org) Offshoreing trend lower wages The shift of productive capacity from the advanced countries to poor countries can be viewed as a commonality of interest among advanced country business groups and Third World elites, who act in concert against workers both in the U. S. and in developing countries. It can also be viewed as a strategy to change the balance of power between Capital and Labour. By shifting production to jurisdictions which favour Capital, owners gain a larger share of revenue and power, while workers everywhere suffer Multinational enterprises (MNEs) had provided huge number of the employment in countries like Indonesian, Vietnam. It not only solves the countries unemployment rate furthermore it will increase the country GDP and lead to the industrialization process of the country by learning the technical know-hows and other industrial automation process. Countries Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) flow will increase; it will improve the exchange and currency rates .Good Employment opportunities directs to better living standard and high purchasing power. Nevertheless, the poor wages, Vietnam and low wage nations can welcome the offshore trend and implement the foreign policies accordingly. Over the last two decades, the advanced economies experienced a boom in off shoring and a doubling of imports of manufactured goods from low-wage countries. Over this same period, approximately 6 million jobs were lost in manufacturing and income inequality increased sharply. These parallel developments led many critics of globalisation to conclude that good manufacturing jobs were being shipped overseas at the expense of the domestic labour force, putting downward pressure on wages of American workers. Concern over these developments led the US Congress to pass the American Jobs Creation Act of 2004. Yet whether these changes in the US labour market are a result of rising import competition or relocation by multinationals to other countries (known as off shoring) is not clear. Paul Krugman (2008) claims that we will never know. He asks How can we quantify the actual effect of rising trade on wages?, and then answers: The answer, given the current state of the data, is that we cant. Yet Krugman suspects that the dramatic increase in manufactured imports from developing countries since the early 1990s has contributed to increasing income inequality. Earlier studies explained rising inequality as a result of technological change which favours skilled workers, a falling minimum wage, or weaker unions (Autor, Katz and Kearney 2008). Larry Katz and David Autor agree with Krugman, arguing that international trade and offshoring will be increasingly important rivers of wages in the future. Theoretically capital mobility should result in higher wages for workers in the developing world, but often it does not. An egregious example of this phenomenon is Nike, the sports shoe manufacturer. Nike makes shoes by contracting with producers in Asian countries. Aggressively seeking the lowest cost, Nike recently moved production from Korea to Indonesia, a military dictatorship which violently represses union activity. The shoes you pay $80 for in the United States are assembled by Indonesian women, working in squalid factories, who receive approximately twelve cents per pair http://home.home.pacbell.net/jfcowan) Benefits of relocating to poor countries For certain occupations there is a greater availability of highly skilled and experienced employees overseas for example manufacturing skills in china and Information technology, Bangalore, India. Cost advantage Companies can save 30-50% compared to the cost of a U.S.-based employee for the same level of performance, and of ten times the offshore employees are more committed, grateful for the work. By using an offshore employee, you eliminate the time you would normally spend on searching job boards, recruiting, interviewing, orientation, managing vacation time and absenteeism, career coaching, and managing employee morale and motivation. Employee issues can be time-consuming and can escalate into legal liabilities. Using offshore staff eliminates certain legal exposure to employment liabilities. Flexibility Unlike traditional employee relationships, off shoring eliminates hiring and termination costs, allowing companies to quickly expand and contract their overseas staff in accordance with business needs. Challenges and considerations Before deciding the relocation plant, the firm has to address the key challenges with respect to cultural, Tax policy, cost savings. Different cultures have different life styles, different attitudes toward conflict resolution and simply different ways of getting work done. Offshore outsourcing is a politically charged issue nowadays, for example the current US government has passed the bill against outsourcing. Expected cost savings might not result from offshore outsourcing. The offshore staff might not turn out to be as productive as expected. Quality of the product also matters for the firm Brand equity. Off shoring can lead to low production cost, if the firm can address all the above mentioned challenges. But, selling the large quantities of the new goods immediately in the poor and low wages countries are always uncertain and it is a risky process also. Every firm has their unique marketing plan and strategy of their products. But, in general poor countries Gross Domestic Product(GDP), Income per captia, and purchasing power of the consumers very less when compare with advanced countries like UK,USA,Germany,France.Canada. Selling a new product in the market requires lot of marketing research and sampling. Due to the uncertain market environment, political disability and consumer behaviour firms are finding difficulties in implementing marketing plan and strategies for the poor countries. In my opinion selling the new goods in the poor countries requires deep understanding of local market and consumer tastes. As per the WTO and ILO reports, more than 3.5 billion people are living in the poor countries. So, firms should understand the culture, life style, of the people to market and sell their products. The plant location and country alone cant decide the success of their products. Findings and recommendations Todays globalization and dynamic business environment has made Production life cycle Theory out of date. Global trade has increased significantly in the last 10- 15 years, thanks to the globalisation world but in the same time inequalities are also increasing. Shifting the production facility or off shoring the manufacturing jobs can increase the profit of the firm due to talent pool, low wages in the poor countries but to achieve this, it has to addresses the challenges of off shoring and draft the business strategies and plans effectively. But quality of the product /service and productivity are the major concern to be addresses by the off shore industry. GDP, income per captia, purchasing power, consumer behaviours are the major deciding factors for buying a new product in any part of the world. All poor countries above mentioned ratios are very less when compare to advanced countries .So launching a new product in poor countries is risky and uncertain even though the product is m anufactured in the same country. Firms should analyze the marketing plans strategy for the poor countries and apply in the poor counties with respect to the market and other demographic factors. Conclusion Globalisation phenomenon gaining across the globe. Trade and culture are exchanging rapidly, thaks, to the advance technology. Shifting the production jobs or off shoring the manufactured jobs has their own advantage and disadvantages. Off shoring has lot of benefits to their own or home country (capital abundant) and new host country (labour abundant) as well. in the same time it has to address the lot of issue in both host and home country with respect to culture, tax policy , environment and other factors. In the open market world firms have the rights to maximize the profits doing offshoreing if obey the terms and condition of the both own and host countries and it should be follow the framework of WTO and ILO

Canterbury Tales - Criticism of the Church in the Summonerââ¬â¢s Tale and t
Criticism of the Catholic Church in the Summonerââ¬â¢s Tale and the Prioressââ¬â¢s Tale Many pilgrims in Geoffrey Chaucerââ¬â¢s Canterbury Tales held a religious position. Some of these peopleââ¬â¢s personal ideas have caused debates and criticism over Chaucerââ¬â¢s opinion of the Catholic Church. Critics have discussed the ideas that were presented both subtly and openly. Two of the pilgrims and their tales will be discussed: the Prioress and the Pardoner. Both of these tales offer points of criticism in the Catholic Church. The Prioress introduces herself as being like a child who does not know many words. She is going to try to tell a tale as best as she can. This child-like language can be seen through the whole tale. The Prioress speaks her tale in a fluent, sweet tone. Her innocence, like a childââ¬â¢s, can be seen as she tells her tale. To see the entire criticism of the Prioressââ¬â¢s tale, the General Prologue must first be recounted. The Prioress was described as a very correct lady; all of her actions showed a very refined lady. She was also portrayed as being very sympathetic, ââ¬Å"She wolde wepe, if that she saugh a mous kaught in a trappe, if it were deed or bledde.â⬠(lines 144-146) She was sentimental enough to feed animals the best food she had. Thus, the Prioress was presented as a very compassionate, well-mannered lady. However, in her tale, the Prioress has an obvious dislike for the Jewish. She relates them to the devil, ââ¬Å"Our firste foo, the serpent Sathanas, that hath in Jues herte his waspes nest...â⬠(Lines 558-59) She describes the Jews as ââ¬Å"cursedâ⬠and ââ¬Å"guilty.â⬠She mentions the history of the Jewish as notoriously bad, ââ¬Å"O yonge Hugh of Lyncoln, slayn also with cursed Jewes, ... ...ummonerââ¬â¢s tale more openly criticizes the church, but the Prioressââ¬â¢s faults are fairly easy to recognize once the story is looked at closely. Ways to Reduce Fluoride Exposure
If youre looking to reduce your intake of fluorine and fluoride (one is the element, one is the ion, both are toxic), it may help you to know what everyday products contain them and what steps you can take to limit your exposure. How to Avoid Fluoride Dont drink unfiltered public water. Assume its fluoridated unless you know otherwise. Most home water filters will not remove fluoride.Dont take fluoride supplements.Try to limit drinking soda because its generally made with fluoridated water. Reconstituted fruit juice, beer, and wine also tend to be made with fluoridated water. Read labels on bottled beverages and look for water purified using reverse osmosis or distillation. If those processes are not specifically named, assume the water is fluoridated.Read the label on bottled water. Again, look for water purified using reverse osmosis or distillation.Consider using unfluoridated toothpaste.Avoid drinking black or red tea. Black and red tea come from two different types of plants, but both leaves naturally contain high amounts of fluorine. If you drink tea, brew it yourself using unfluoridated water.Choose organic fruits and vegetables since the U.S. National Organic Program does not permit the use of the pesticides that leave hig h fluoride residues.Expect tinned fish and canned food items to contain fluoride.Avoid or limit your consumption of mechanically deboned chicken in any form, including chicken nuggets, canned chicken, and baby food. Traces of fluoride (from bones) remain from the deboning process.Fluoride may be used as a preservative in many products. Sometimes you will be able to see this on the product label.Avoid black or red rock salt or items containing black or red rock salt.Avoid using chewing tobacco.Avoid long term use of medications that contain fluorine. If you use a fluoridated toothpaste, rinse your mouth with water after brushing your teeth. If you need anesthesia, ask your doctor about options using drugs that do not contain fluorine.Avoid overheating Teflon pans while cooking, as some of the Teflon (a fluorine compound) may be released into the air.

Critical Analysis of The Journey of the Magi Free Essay Example, 1000 words
ââ¬Å"It was (you may say) satisfactoryâ⬠(Eliot, 31) may strike one as a masterpiece of understatement but, nevertheless, it does express content. The image of ââ¬Å"the three trees on the low skyâ⬠(Eliot, 24), is definitely symbolic of the three crosses at the site of Christââ¬â¢s crucifixion on Mount Calvary. While this picture does evoke the sorrow and the pain of Christââ¬â¢s sacrifice, the shadows of darkness are immediately illuminated by the image of the promised dawn conjured up by the ââ¬Å"low sky. â⬠Christââ¬â¢s crucifixion is but the gateway to a limitless horizon of new beginnings. The low sky is the harbinger of many dawns to come. Thus the three trees constitute ââ¬Å"a negative image relating to Christââ¬â¢s death but on the other hand, a positive image relating to Christââ¬â¢s sacrifice for humanityâ⬠(Finley, American Literature Research and Analysis Web site). The ââ¬Å"white horse, â⬠(Eliot, 25) as in St. Johnsâ⠬⢠Book of Revelations, represents death: the death of sin and the death of the old ways (Logue, Sermon on 6 January 2001). Death is vanquished and driven away by the dawn of a new belief. We will write a custom essay sample on Critical Analysis of The Journey of the Magi or any topic specifically for you Only $17.96 $11.86/pageorder now This is followed by images of decay and dissipation, evoked by men ââ¬Å"dicing for pieces of silver/ And feet kicking the empty wine-skinsâ⬠(Eliot, 27 ââ¬â 28). This is an obvious allusion to Judasââ¬â¢ betrayal of Jesus for thirty pieces of silver and also to the soldiers casting lots for Jesusââ¬â¢ clothes at the foot of the cross after the crucifixion. Once again, this picture of waste and emptiness is immediately countered by the preceding hope of fulfillment, represented by the fertile symbolism of the ââ¬Å"vine-leaves over the lintelâ⬠(Eliot, 26), whose promised harvest will fill the empty wine-skins with the new wine of faith in Jesus. The inn with ââ¬Å"an open doorâ⬠(Eliot, 27) represents the mansion of God the Father, into which Jesus has promised entry to all true believers: ââ¬Å"In my Fathersââ¬â¢ House are many mansions: â⬠¦ I go to prepare a place for youâ⬠(John 14:2, King James Bible). S alvation is an open door, always accessible and within the reach of every true seeker of Christ. A warm welcome awaits every traveler at the end of his weary pilgrimage. The poems ultimate declaration of hope resides in the staunch assertion of the Magus in the last paragraph: ââ¬Å"And I would do it again, â⬠he says (Eliot, 33). Just as he acknowledges the rigors of their quest in the beginning, the Magus now concedes that the birth of Christ was ââ¬Å"hard and bitter agony for usâ⬠(Eliot, 39). He is perplexed by the implications of the Divine birth and admits that he is yet to grasp the true significance of this ââ¬Å"Birth â⬠¦ like Deathâ⬠(Eliot, 38 ââ¬â 39).

From Parallel Worlds in Franz Kafkaôs The Metamorphosis...
How can two different worlds be so similar? The saying, ââ¬Å"same stuff different story,â⬠comes into play. Franz Kafkaââ¬â¢s The Metamorphosis and Albert Camusââ¬â¢ The Myth of Sisyphus each have a protagonist that lives in an absurd world. Gregor Samsa and Sisyphus go through some type of change or punishment that makes their existence insignificant. Gregor Samsa becomes a metaphorical and physical ââ¬Å"bugâ⬠to his family and must spend the rest life this way. Sisyphus is punished by the Gods and must spend the rest of his life pushing a massive boulder up a hill. I claim that the metamorphosis of Gregor Samsa is similar to the world of Sisyphus, because the two characters are conscious that they cannot escape their fates. Samsa and Sisyphus both have their same respective mind sets; however, they react to situations in different manners. Samsa and Sisyphus have their human minds, which make them conscious of their fates. Samsa, in his new stage, can still think like a regular human being, yet he cannot act like one. While Sisyphus releases the boulder from the top of the hill, he knows that the boulder will go back down, but he does not have the power to prevent the boulder from going down hill. The two still have common knowledge, yet they are not capable of changing their fate. The characters do not have the same free will as they use to, yet they still have free minds. Russia and The Middle East
Question: Explain about the Report on Russia and The Middle East? Answer: The given topic provides a brief description on how AEAS and EU cultures were developed during the time of Cold War and after that. During the cold war, ASEAN experienced four different phases in four centuries[1]. During each of those phases, one or two incidents transformed the society and culture slowly but steadily. For example, in the second phase, countries started to put their belief on diplomatic solution. However, the process was difficult as the dictatorship was still at large that suppressed the voice of democracy. However, in third century or phase, more countries joined democracy and agreed with the idea. In the fourth phase, the countries were included and became a part of Asia. Therefore, slowly but steadily the society and culture transformed after experiencing various transformations, conflict and crisis during the cold war[2]. However, in spite of having excellent approaches and goals ASEAN existence was influenced by outside parties. This happened as the leaders di d not have ample skill to implement those approaches. It can be said that ASEAN and EU histories are somehow similar to each other. Both have the chances to influence other cultures. The only difference is the rise of Russia during the cold war that acquired most of the power in the region[3]. However, it is expected that economic advancement of China can balance this power distribution in near future. References Dannreuther, Roland. Trial and Death of Socrates Essay Example
Trial and Death of Socrates Essay Benjamin Jowett. The Trial and Death of Socrates (Dover Edition). New York: Dover Publications, 1992 ââ¬Å"What is the charge? Well, a very serious charge, which shows a good deal of character in the young man, and for which he is certainly not to be despised. He says he knows how the youth are corrupted and who are their corruptors. And I fancy that he must be a wise man, and seeing that I am anything but a wise man, he has found me out, and is going to accuse me of corrupting his young friends. And of this our mother the state is to be the judge. Of all our political men he is the only one who seems to me to begin in the right way, with the cultivation of virtue in youth; he is a good husbandman, and takes care of the shoots first and clears away us who are the destroyers of them. That is the first step; he will afterwards attend to the elder branches; and if he goes on as he has begun, he will be a very great public benefactorâ⬠(p. 2). This quote from Socrates states, in a brief but precise way, what the entire book is about. Socrates constant search for an answer to the meanings of piety, impiety, virtue, what is just or unjust, all while being put on trial for an accusation of corrupting the youth of Athens by teaching them to believe in new gods and not to believe in the gods established in the state religion. Socrates is not only on the quest for himself, but also on a quest to make his fellow Athenians question their own preconceived notions of said meanings. A man must be an extraordinary man and have made great strides in wisdom, before he could have seen his way to thisâ⬠(p. 3). This quote from Socrates comes after he asks Euthyphro what he is doing on the porch of King Archon. Euthyphro responds by telling Socrates that he is there to bring up a charge of murder against his father. When Socrates points out that, according to accepted beliefs, it is wicked to harm or bring disgrace on oneââ¬â¢s father, Euthyphro counters that that makes no difference. According to accepted beliefs, harboring a manslayer is wrong and pollutes those who associate with him. This response is what leads into a discussion of the main topic of the dialogue: piety. ââ¬Å"And what is piety, and what is impiety? â⬠(p. 4). Since Euthyphro is an expert in religion and seems capable of finding the right course to pursue in what appears to Socrates a dilemma (the prosecution of Euthyphroââ¬â¢s father), and since Socrates is facing a religious charge, he proposes that he become Euthyphroââ¬â¢s student in religion. This is why he asks Euthyphro to define piety, so that he himself will have a measure for deciding what is religious and what is not, thus be able to defend himself in court. Euthyphro answers that what he is doing in prosecuting his father is religious, and he cites the precedent of Zeus punishing his own father (Cronos). Socrates then questions many of the stories about strife among the gods over the next few passages as Euthyphro continues to defend the gods. This questioning of the stories about the gods is what leads to his trial in the first place, that he questioned them and that because he was a teacher it caused the youth to question the gods. If you question the gods and the gods are pious, you are in turn acting with impiety. ââ¬Å"Remember that I did not ask you to give me two or three examples of piety, but to explain the general idea which makes all pious things to be pious. Do you not recollect that there was one idea which made the impious impious, and the pious pious? â⬠(p. 6). After Euthyphro confesses that he is unable to make any progress with this questionââ¬âhaving had enoughââ¬âhe excuses himself from further discussion on the grounds that he must keep an appointment. The Apology dialogue begins with Socrates, at his trial, addressing the court after the prosecution has made their case against him. Socrates begins his defense by remarking what persuasive speakers his accusers are in contrast to himself. He indicates that he does not expect to get a fair hearing because of the wide-spread rumors about him and that these rumors associate him with the natural philosophers. The problem with that association is that the natural philosophers were widely suspected of atheism because some of them openly advocated atheism. ââ¬Å"Well, then, I will make my defence, and I will endeavor in the time which is allowed to do away with this evil opinion of me which you have held for such a long time; and I ope that I may succeed, if this be know that to accomplish this is not easyââ¬âI quite see the nature of the task. Let the event be as God wills: in obedience to the law I make my defence. â⬠(p. 20). This statement is a clue as to what Socrates personal beliefs are on acting just and with piety. With his words, he shows the court that although he does not agree with the charges, he will act as the law has been written for all of the citizens of Athens. He does not expect special treatme nt and his acceptance of his fate through ââ¬Å"God willsâ⬠is that of a pious nature. The ââ¬Å"God willsâ⬠line is sort of a slap in the face to those accusing him because, for Socrates to put his fate in Godsââ¬â¢ hands, it goes against the very nature of the accusations of his atheist behavior. After Socrates gives the court some historical background as to why these rumors exist, he focuses his attention on Meletus and the first charge. Socrates begins by stating that, since Meletus claims to know who is corrupting the youth, he must know who improves them. After some back and forth between the two men, Socrates gets Meletus to say that all Athenians improve the youth and that Socrates is the only one who corrupts the youth. Socrates continues to use Meletus own words against him throughout and thus making him look quite foolish in front of the court. ââ¬Å" I have said enough in answer to the charge of Meletus: any elaborate defence is unnecessary; but as I was saying before, I certainly have many enemies, and this is what will be my destruction if I am destroyed; of that I am certain;not Meletus, nor yet Anytus, but the envy and detraction of the world, which has been the death of many good men, and will probably be the death of many more; there is no danger of mine being the last of them. â⬠(p. 29). Here Socrates, in my opinion, shows the court again that he will turn the other cheek to his accusers and not blame them, but instead chooses to blame what I would like to call the human condition. That is, putting your own self interests before that of others to further your gain. This is why Socrates struggles with anyone giving him a definition of piety, because I think that to Socrates piety means acting altruistic. Since the human condition is that of self serving your own interests, he sees through peoples definitions because he knows that they are going to give a definition that fits their ideas. Some one will say: Are you not ashamed, Socrates, of a course of life which is likely to bring you to an untimely end? To him I may fairly answer: There you are mistaken: a man who is good for anything ought not calculate the chance of living or dying; he ought only to consider whether in doing anything he is doing right or wrongââ¬âacting the part of a good man or of a bad. â⬠(p. 29). He is saying that you should not do something good with the anticipation of your gain, but do it because that is what is right and that will be the reward. During his ââ¬Å"closingâ⬠argument, Socrates states that he will not ask his three sons to come to court and ask them to petition the court for his acquittal because he ââ¬Å"feels such conduct to be discreditable to myself, and you, and the whole stateâ⬠(p. 35). Again, Socrates uses his words to show the court that he will not allow himself to apologize for something that he feels he did not do wrong. He would be lying to himself if he did that, and it also could be argued that this action would be impious to oneself. After being found guilty, Socrates speaks to the court about how he should be sentenced. The accusers have told the court that death is just for his actions while Socrates reminds the people of the jury that he ââ¬Å"sought to persuade every man among you, that he must look into himself, and seek virtue and wisdom before he looks to his private interests, and look to the state before he looks to the interests of the state; and that this should be the order which he observes in all of his actions,â⬠while trying to persuade the jury that he should just pay a fine (p. 36). After the jury comes back with a sentence of death, Socrates is again allowed to address the court. While Socrates says that the trial was not a fair one, he calls the outcome ââ¬Å"fair enough. â⬠He says that the result is just because there is a just proportion preserved in the consequences for him and for his accusers. He will be put to death, but his opponents will live as lesser men because of their deeds and that their fate is worse. He says no one knows what lies after death, but he envisions two possibilities. If death is annihilation, it will resemble an endless, dreamless sleep, which is not at all bad. On the other hand, if what the mystery religions teach is correct, he will move on to an after-life in which he may mingle with the famous dead of former ages. He humorously suggests that he will continue engaging in debate and in deflating the pompous, something that he says will make him happy. Socrates jail cell is the setting for the Crito dialogue. Socrates is alone with his elderly life-long friend and neighbor Crito. Crito has come early because he has received advance notice of the imminent arrival of the sacred vessel from Delos. Crito launches into an urgent appeal to Socrates that he accepts the plans that Crito and other friends have made for Socrates to escape. ââ¬Å"Dear Crito, your zeal is invaluable, if a right one; but if wrong, the greater the zeal, the greater the evil; and therefore we ought to consider whether these things shall be done or notâ⬠(p. 46). Here is another example of how Socrates only knows what he does not know, much like that of piety. While he loves that Crito is his loyal friend and would do anything to save him, he cannot allow himself to make a decision in haste without using reason. Therefore, he will not forsake the principles that he has honored for a long time but will remain true to whatever reason tells him is demanded by them. ââ¬Å"Then my friend, we must not regard what the many say of us: but what he, the one man who has understanding of just and unjust, will say, and what the truth will say. And therefore you begin in error when you suggest that we should regard the opinion of the many about just and unjust, good and evil, honorable and dishonorableâ⬠(p. 48). Socrates says here that once a man is secure with knowing who he is, and what that man deems just and unjust for himself, he cannot be guided by the opinions of others and still be true to himself. ââ¬Å"Then we ought not to retaliate or render evil for evil to anyone, whatever evil we may have suffered from himâ⬠(p. 49). Again, another example of how Socrates tries to get people to think in a more altruistic or ââ¬Å"piousâ⬠way. To conclude his argument, Socrates deals with the considerations favoring escape put forth earlier by Crito when he shows how the consequences of submitting to the sentence outweigh these considerations. He does this by saying that if he escapes taking his children with him, they will be aliens in a strange land and the children of a fugitive from justice; they would be better off as orphans in Athens. Crito acknowledges Socratesââ¬â¢ reasons, thus ending the dialogue. In conclusion, I believe it is important to read this book because it provides the reader with guidance to question why you do the things you do in your life. Donââ¬â¢t just go through life doing things because someone else tells you thatââ¬â¢s what you need to do. Or to put it a little more eloquently, ââ¬Å"The unexamined life is not worth livingââ¬âSocrates. ââ¬
